Artist Profile

I am fascinated with the myth of reality. The idea that there is no reality, only our perception, is something I explore, and has become a fundamental principle of my work. My paintings are seen as abstract. But as they are my perceptions, to me, they are firmly planted in reality.

Almost every avenue of my life is over-thought, over-planned and over-analysed. When I approach my art I let go of the need to control and access the center of me that is free and spontaneous. I see the canvas as my spiritual diary. It serves as a place to unleash my inhibition. I prefer to not know what is going to happen, intuiting the composition. I aim for free and organic form, rendering colour through feeling and developing texture through the layering and removing of paint.

I hope that in my need to paint out my perception of my existence, I create paintings that resonate with others, that they evoke an experience where the viewers are free to create their own realities.
